We need to do something.

Gotta figure out a way to get more money into @Andre's pocket without taxing more of his time. Suggestions in comments?
Lets try to centralize comments discussion on this post: https://mltshp.com/p/YCYW
Lastly, if you aren't already a paid subscriber, you can/should sign up here: https://mltshp.com/account...

First, what if mlkshk were paid only? Obviously would ruffle a lot of feathers, but that would cut down on traffic/use/problems, while simultaneously bringing in a little more money for Andre. Would anger a lot of users I think, but would make the use of the users who remained more sustainable, I think.
Second, I wonder whether mlkshk is something Andre could successfully kickstart (or similar crowdfunding). That has the disadvantage of taking up some more of his time, though, to come up with and run and pimp out a kickstarter, so maybe not a great idea.
Third, I wonder what @mlkshk (@andre? @torrez? not sure how to page properly there, actually) has to say about this, but a blog post plus some sort of left-side pimpage for a call for paypal donations may drum up some capital.
The rub is, this is sort of all band-aids. The problem is that mlkshk takes andre's TIME, not that he needs a wad of cash right now; I don't know about all of you, but I don't think I could pay enough that this would be a sustainable enough career option for Andre to not worry about its interfering with other jobs.
Until he can get paid from @mlkshk like he does from his other clients, it's obviously a low/nil priority.
Of course, that requires policing, which is tricky. But they're likely the largest source of resource-sapping traffic, and the reason none of us ever read incoming anymore.
anyhow, if someone's coordinating possible technical volunteers, please add my name to the list.
That turns his role from sole developer to tech manager, which is not necessarily less time consuming if the project is vigorous.
Also, it doesn't affect the matter of site management itself. The site could benefit from a flagging feature, for example, but that still means, for example, there's got to be somebody watching the flag queue.
Name it like mare❤️mlkshk or something.
Coincidently my yearly payment is up next week.
There's also the option to give @Andre $100 on his Tugboat page: https://tugboatyards.com/page... Consider doing this.
double the payment amount? i'd be fine with that. i'd also be fine with making it pay only and cutting out the free users altogether. i'd also be fine with it going away, but i'd rather that not happen.
i'll add these to my growing list of "things i am fine with"
I actually did that, by the way, for my business, and he said no. This was several months ago, I think he had already stopped going down that road by that point.
Perhaps the site was designed to implode after /p/ZZZZ so this is all moot.
But I don't know how that helps with the more worrisome and saddening aspect of it, that the project may not be fun anymore.
"I'm not having fun anymore" is a thing that someone realizes before they break up with you.
I'm willing to pony up more cash if need be and I generally have a good bit of spare time to offer so if I can be of help please don't hesitate to ask.
Also, sometimes great ideas don't get the resources they deserve. Maybe this is the case, sadly. Sometimes coming to goodbye is harder than the walking way...
There's nothing worse than losing the fun in a thing, and i hope it's not too late to find a way to sustain this beautiful nook. I subscribe and would pay more if i could, and i can add my name to the tech volunteer list if that helps too.
Increases monthly costs but need to figure out if it raises costs more than we can cover.
If you want to draw in new subscribers maybe shoot over the Popular feed to facebook. Love it or hate it people use Facebook as a way to research websites. (Especially websites asking for their credit card) Make it easy for people to get involved and sign up for a subscription.
I also support making the site read-only for non-subscribers.
Maybe BetaWorks will swoop in and buy us up?

I think it might be the "recurring" part of the fee that scares people, so what if there were alternatives for poorer folks and cheapskates like one-time fees in order to do the following:
* $0 to join, like, save
* $1 to be able to leave comments
* $5 to be able to upload images
* $10 to have stats (this one seems like it's a pain, or expensive time- and server-wise)
* maybe $2 to start a shk?
(all of the above would be included with the $24 pro version)
