I had a hermit crab as a kid that I named hore-ee-aught-oh, after reading the name in a book about another kid who had a hermit crab by the same name. My parents shrugged it off for months, "Japanese named pet? Sure why not."
It wasn't until my brother came home from college and asked me to spell Horatio's name that everything came to light.

Yes! Also, English was not my parents' first language, and there were four different languages flying about the house growing up. So even when I tried saying the word "intestine" incorrectly no-one would know to correct me.

I actually STILL don't know how to say archipelago...is it "arch-ee-PELL-a-go" or "arc-EH-pell-AH-go" or something else?
