"There will come soft rains..."

I spent one long day cancelling or downgrading all my dad's stuff and setting up his bills to be paid. I found that when you'd call, say, Dish Networks on the phone they'd be all "you're not authorized to make changes on this account, bla bla bla fax us the death certificate and the durable power of attorney and bla bla bla 2-4 days..."
However, since I could use the Slingbox to watch my dad's TV, I could get the Dish details and then log in to the Dish website since I know the answers to all his security questions. I could then get a customer service rep on IM who would make all the changes no questions asked. Plus I get to say all the pleases and thank yous that my [wonderful but often rude in that IT sort of way] father never would.
This scene repeated itself throughout my day. I never really thought of myself as much of a social engineer but I'll be damned if I'm going to wait to fax things in on Monday when I could just solve it from my living room. Dad would have been proud.
