Obviously a bowl of some sort. Dates in the 1860's and 1890's stamped on the back.

That night I wrote:

Everything went smoothly, no real problems at the hospital. Driving away, I had the same sensation from the first time - "I can't believe you're just supposed to drive home and get on with your life now." My new little girl seems impossibly small. She's a pound lighter and three inches shorter than my older daughter was, but I can't believe it's even that close. When she cries she sounds like a baby eagle. I tell her she'll get her salmon guts from mommy soon enough, just wait til I get this diaper on. My older daughter, who is two and a half, has been a trooper. When she had visits to the hospital she offered her sister whatever snack she happened to have. "No, the baby can't have a pretzel, but it's very nice of you to want to share." She alternates between incredibly sweet and indifferent. But she's said "I'm sad" about a half dozen times in as many hours. She can't articulate why, I don't know if she knows. We've been renovating and she just moved her into a new room a week before we went to the hospital. My parents are staying with us to help out. I put her to bed each night and then went back to the hospital, and my parents did their best to get her back to sleep when she inevitably woke in the middle of the night crying out for me. Now that we're all back in the house all night, we're back to trying to get her into better sleep habits. She says she'll try to close her eyes if she wakes up in the middle night. I told her nonno or bobe may come to help her go back to sleep if daddy is helping mommy with the baby sister. She started to cry - "No, I want daddy!" I've added talk time to story time, song time, and snuggle time as part of bed time. Tonight we started with why she was sad, but after we didn't get too far I suggested we could talk about anything like stars or books. We talked about stars for a little, then she said she wanted to talk about the moon. We did, and then got out of bed to look for the moon out of the bay windows in the room next to hers. It's cloudy and I don't think the moon was on the right side of the house when we looked. We'll try again tomorrow night.
