Most of the public libraries in Vermont can get interlibrary loaned books from anywhere and we don't have fines. Not quite the same instant gratification-wise but it's a trade-off for absolutely free.
time has not been kind to the beached dolphin
Out for a walk and we found a beached dolphin. Interesting and exciting! I googled around and found that there have been some other dolphin groundings/deaths in the last few months in New England and then found a photo of the exact dolphin we had seen, only a week earlier. Not sure if this is all just scavenger action or not, but it was an interesting juxtaposition.

I was wondering about that. Then again I don't know what it looks like when a dolphin corpse decomposes, maybe it's like that?

According to Planet Money, the massive Chinese demand for chicken feet plays a big part in allowing the domestic chicken industry to survive and continue providing the rest of the chicken to American consumers. I thought that was neat.
Chicken feet aren't that bad when prepared correctly. The meat is really tender and falls right off the bone. Of course, you have to not mind eating a little bit of cartilage.

I help the Vermont 251 Club with making small edits on a website they inherited from someone else. It is not very intuitive.

I have a 3mb jobs.shtml file from my college's website that was made because the user kept nesting tables as they copy/pasted a new job over an old one to update it. And dreamweaver would add extra tags to ensure it was closed properly. I saved the file for historic and wtf purposes.
6 nested tables? Did they build it with GoLive or something? That looks like one of my old web 1.0 sites, sadly- the only way to reliably control placement of images in the older versions was through fancy table nesting and cell border & pad widths.
I'll take formatted insane HTML over badly formatted good HTML.
unexpected result
So this is sort of interesting... I was lazyweb searching for the time/location of a talk I'm giving in Missouri in a few weeks. I typed this into Google. The results I found have nothing to do with Missouri at all, but look at what's happening. Google is "helpfully" abbreviating Missouri as MO and then "helpfully" eliding the title of an old tweet of mine by cutting a word in half and then "helpfully" saying that these things match when any human can see that they don't.
Keep in mind these were the first two results for my search, I didn't have to click around to find them. I harangue people about this a lot, but the default settings of software and web sites are often somewhat obscured and only come out when something weird like this happens. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I'm always sort of excited to find a new little fail like this.

If you put "missouri" in quotes, it won't also search the abbreviation. It's the replacement for the plus operator that everyone complained about losing a few months ago.
