In high school I was so afraid my friends would catch me listening to an album with a cover like this.

What did you use to make this?

And have you considered Notational Velocity?

This was like 2 minutes in photoshop & PowerPoint. I sent NV screenshots to the Evernote team, though I'm sure they've seen them.

@anildash The thing that bugs me about evernote is the whacked out file format that renames everything you put in there so you can't access it via any other program. Sure it's available via Spotlight (like anyone uses that) but it's then inside a Note file.

@anildash Catch notes (catch.com) seems like Evernote with a lot less nonsense. Very simple web UI and Android/iOS apps. Tags are just #likethis.

One solution that has none of these interface issues is emacs org-mode. Within three to six months you'll find you have the basics down, and it has none of these distractions. For instance to add a task I type control-C c, then "t" for task, then enter task, then scroll down one line and shift cursor to modify the date, then Shift-Alt-Right cursor to change the todo states, and then you can refile to one of several top-level topics.

I go back and forth between evernote and onenote, hating both for different reasons.

Evernote still wins my heart for quick screenshot pasting. It's pretty much all I use it for. Anything text/archived is stuffed in to Simplenote.

@ftrain was that meant to sound easy? cos that reads like the most complicated thing EVAR.

@jordanbrock Hah no. Org-mode is awesome and unbelievably powerful but it's really only for people who've already made The Emacs Decision and are willing to sort of warm up to it over the course of a few months. A cold start would be infuriating.

I use NV and other things in a very un-simple way :)

For tasks I use ThinkingSpace MindMapping app on my Android phone. I can synch to the cloud across my phone and tablet, plus (semi-auto) to FreeMind on the Mac.
