I posted this because I thought the headline was sensational garbage. I actually support limiting trans-fats and junk foods in schools, thank you very much. I just don't know how any government might do it without idiots blathering on about the nanny state.

Why not teach children how to eat a healthy diet and get the proper amount of exercise and give them more choices rather than less when it comes to what they eat...?

I don't understand. I grew up eating butter, still do, lots of it as a matter of fact and barring all the recreational chemicals I've ingested over the years I'm in great shape. I've never had a weight problem. I realize I may have gotten lucky in the genetic lottery but this whole business of banning foods because people, even children, can't exercise a modicum of self control is fucking bullshit... If we want to ban something that makes people's lives worse without much visible benefit let's start with The Bible and work our way back from there.

If history is any indication in a few more years there is going to be a study that says that trans fats really aren't all that bad for us after all... see also eggs, red wine... and all the other substances that have made the banned list over the years and have since been found to be perfectly fine for humans... provided they are consumed in, you guessed it, Moderation.

The point of view that starts off "well that's the way I did it, so" is kind of a weak point of view

My point of view is that the New York Daily News has published alarmist bullshit based upon an email they intercepted from a "food manager" whose powers to change food policy at the school level are never really touched upon. The article contradicts itself several times, and is padded out with the aforementioned gigantic stock images of butter. My initial beef was with the tone of the article itself.

I also don't believe there is such a thing as the nannystate. I think it's yet another empty buzzword.

But your whole argument seems to be predicated upon the idea that schoolchildren are really having their butter taken away. If the article is itself false, then this is not even happening.
