I've lived in London, NYC, SF, and now Phoenix, and NYC is the winner by miles and miles.

@spingo I did like a lot of things about living in London, but it was Thatcher's Britain and very difficult. Now I go back and I love it, but I couldn't afford to live there unless I got all Dickensian and only had one suit of clothes.

One of my good friends from here has to move to Phoenix because of his wife's health. He's a "craft" bartender, and we haven't heard much about the scene out there, even from within the industry. Do you have any insights?

Not in that arena specifically, no, but there *is* a hint of foodie culture here. I'm sure there are blogs and such but I don't know much other than the PHX New Times' Chow Bella: http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bella/ . I don't have any money or go out much, so I don't really track the kinds of places a craft bartender would be at. I work with some high-end event people, which may be of use?

I, similarly, couldn't go back to NYC or London as I've gone feral and don't think I could readapt to office life, and my array of freelance work is good for the soul but not necc. lucrative.

@spingo Thanks for that, will do. And ha..."Feral" is a good way to describe that state where the ballast tips in a certain direction.

We like it here partially because of the Egalitarian nature of entertainment and fun.

Well, that sounds like a good way for fun to be. In Treme, anyway, I like how much people play music around the house, in the park, walking down the street, etc. It took me forever to get around to playing music because it was this foreign thing that was only ever around in recordings!

@spingo Yes, I tell the few remaining friends of mine who are musicians that they should at least consider moving here, if just to live in a place where making music is normal and a legitimate job, like, something people's grandads do.
