"Elaine Stritch of New York cools off after paying a one-dollar fine in mid-Manhattan Court today for wearing this halter and shorts in Central Park Sunday. The actress, understudying for Ethel Merman, got the ticket when she took off a t-shirt after a bike ride. Said the judge: 'A beautiful girl like you could cause a riot.' Retorted Elaine: 'I was there all day and nothing happened.'" -- June 6, 1951
