it looks awesome - but I'm still trying to figure out the added benefit of this over - say - a sphere...

@tonyb ...a sphere will roll indefinitely in any direction. The Meissner solid will roll, but must change direction before rolling long stretches of distance. This keeps your supported item from scooting off into the sunset.

@annterland - won't it just roll on a wobbly curve?

I guess somebody would have to do a study on how far meissner solids rolled and determine some kind of probabilistic formula ...
