Yeah this has been bothering me for quite some time now. Much has been said about proper attribution on this sight, the least people could do is share the image from the original Tumblr post. The above behavior is just lazy.
@LocalStain I've often wondered if it's laziness or someone just not knowing how it works. Considering a large portion of the content on MLKSHK is generated / posted elsewhere, I'd like to at least know where it comes from. MLKSHK has proven to be a pretty good place (at least for me) to discover new sites to check out/follow/etc.
@rslr I couldn't agree more I have discovered some amazing sites by following links I've found here on MlkShk. I thought that was the idea.
@annterland I think that's a rather narrow-minded approach. There has been much discussion here and elsewhere on the interwebs on the subject of attribution. I have taken shit more than once for not including a source, any source, when I link photos. I realize that people can just use tineye but if you really want to locate the author of any of the content you find here it stands to reason that you at least include the link where you found it. It seems to me it's just common courtesy...
Something unfortunately all to uncommon these days.
But then since MlkShk has become, for better or worse, the place where reddit comes to die, I guess that's to be expected.
@LocalStain, I like you so I'll ignore your comment on my narrow minded approach (I'm shallow too, so take this reply with a grain of salt). I'm just saying sometimes a picture can stand on it's own awesomeness and sometimes there isn't a valid source worth posting. I too have found some really cool sites through MLKSHK, but sometimes I just like the pictures.
@annterland I agree - I have a harddrive full of MLKSHK-worthy photos where I've long since forgotten the source. I'll still share those but in most cases, I'll make sure I have proper attribution so others can see where I got the content and so original posters get a bit of credit. The only thing that *somewhat* bothers me is the posts directly from 'tumblr dashboard' or 'google reader' - that's (to me) sorta lazy for people. Anyway - it's Friday. Let's breakdance.
