Look at this moment in time, as captured in a slightly fuzzy two-dimensional image. As I imagine any photography student would attest to, it’s far from an example of wonderful photo-taking. However, upon the sight of it, even just a simple half-second glance that your brain might not fully have registered, I bet your heart rate went up. See, most so-called “fandoms” would have to be rather brave to even dream of a photograph in which two of actors - who never actually share screen time together - reside within the same frame, clearly evidencing that they met. And not only are these two brilliant - nay, epic - xy-chromosome-d humans sharing breathing space, but the freckled head is incredibly close to the giant forehead. And it tisn’t a typical posed publicly shot either. It doesn’t say, “Why hello, camera. Lemme show you my teeth”; it gleefully shouts “We’ve been looking at each other…and gosh darn it, we like it.” David Tennant, as evidenced by their dapper matching clothing, is clearly about to leave the show that he’s spent the last several years devoting his life, talent and love towards. We know from various videos and quotes that he felt rather sad about leaving, but in this moment, when looking in the eyes of his soon-to-be successor, there is nothing but pride to pass his sonic tool on over. And Mr. Matthew Robert Smith, likely nervous to be on set and inside the beautiful TARDIS, looks positively drunk off of his own admiration for the Tennant specimen, as he is thankful to gaze upon to the Scotsman. Notice the loopy smile, the droopy eyes of Matt’s young face; Study carefully the upturn of David’s mouth, the welcoming warmth in his eyes. That is bromance, my darlings. They might not know each other well, but they are surely committing fornication-by-eyesight.
This image might not compare to the masterpieces of Van Gogh, Picasso, or even Charles M. Schultz, but is truly a work of art in my blessed eyes. Anytime I simply remember that such a glorious photograph exists in this often-cruel world, my breath catches, my organs - both sexual and non heat up, and my adoration for these two is further affirmed.
