The boys (mostly 6-year-old Little John #1) get one hour per MONTH of computer/iOS time, with a couple exceptions, and they think that is perfectly normal (though he is very focussed on when the first of the month rolls around). We intend to milk that perception/acceptance for ALAP. The exceptions have been when LJ1 wanted to type the numbers 1 to 1000 before the end of K, and more recently when he's wanted to augment his chess skills by playing Dino Chess. But even that resulted in some obsession and tears when told "not now", so we are reigning even that time in.
I am amazed at how many of our contemporaries give unfettered tablet/phone access to their kids, to the point where the kids know the passcodes and don't even ask to use the devices. I suppose the argument could be made that it's not unlike plopping down in front of the boob tube for hours when we were kids, but that didn't seem anywhere near as addictive.
Says dad before spending probably 2-3 hours around MLKSHK today. But that's different – I haven't got a problem.
