Very much! One of those "shit, why didn't I think of that" moments; really nice stuff.
Also has me thinking about how terrible watercolor paints are in terms of lightfastness because I've been reading about pigments and binders and light damage for a couple weeks.
There's definitely an aspect of just jumping the fuck in, which is easier said than done because there's also an aspect of just this is how my brain works for better or for worse I guess. But I'm pretty miserable at building habits in non-hobby areas and have made progress there myself through sheer will at times, so I know it's doable.
The main thing that works for me with hobby stuff is to find the little bit that you like and chase it shamelessly. Trick yourself into getting better or more read up on something by accident, by just focusing on the bit you like.
