And I know it's one of those "That's not a knife, *this* is a knife" guy one-upsmanship things, but I guess I get easily annoyed by the men's-jewelry realm of high-end audio when the items lack (to me) that nth degree of spit-and-polish appeal but the maker decided to push it out at a premium anyway.
Or maybe it's because, as noted, AF makes some really beautiful-looking pieces but this ain't one of them.

A bargain at $38,995.
"While listening, clients quickly point out the energy, life, timbre and breath typically only heard by first generation 1/4" and 1/2" 15 ips open reel tape recordings which they are now experiencing for the first time during LP playback. The experience is transformative and literally like nothing we have heard thus far with any direct drive based front end."
There is endless tweaker cost-no-object gear out there, of course, but this spoke to me in spite of its redonkulousness. Plus it sounds like there's some solid engineering behind it.

This just looks like an SL-1200 cast in concrete. AF's own Garrard 301 mods are much nicer from the standpoint of being men's jewelry. But as usual it's the Japanese and the Brits that take obsessive modding for sound's sake to proper extremes (look up "Shindo Garrard 301"; it doesn't look all that fancy as bespoke audio goes until you read about the work involved)
