Damn dongles
@3rdparty If your current computer is adequate i'd probably wait. This wasn't a replacement for me but a new computer to add additional away from home opportunities.
The screen is fantastic, probably the biggest part of cost increase.
The touchbar is interesting, i don't use it much yet but i wasn't a big function key user (regular key shortcuts yes, functions no). as apps add more stuff to it i'll remember to use it.
the keyboard bites. I've used it about a day and half of continual use and i'm still making more mistakes than i do with my mechanical keyboards.
4 ports are nice as they each do everything. So dongle life kind of sucks but i'll slowly move to thunderbolt 3/usb-c devices and not really worry about it.
Thinness/lightness lot of people bitch that apple should stop doing this but honestly I really, really like it. I can get more battery with an external pack thanks to USB-C but i don't have to carry that weight when i don't need it.

@Kevin all good feedback. I'm making due on a loaner 2012 rMBP, after my 2011 MBA screen cracked and I sold it for parts.
One day I'm convinced I need to spend $3k CAD on a tricked out new tbMBP (that, in theory, should last me 5 years as my MBA did), the next day I'm convinced I'm a-ok with this 2012 rMBP. I think I'll ride it out until the spring at least to avoid initial manufacturing glitches and let the USB-C/dongle marketplace mature and prices settle. Enjoy & Cheers.

What's the verdict so far on the new MBP? I'm on the fence on ordering 1st gen, may wait until price drop or spec bump in the spring.
