Wide-stanced senators with their airport bathroom rendezvous. Adulterous congressmen with their holier than thou impeachment proceedings. Racist/segregationist senators who father biracial children with underage women. Closeted congressmen who hit/prey on teenage pages – while chairing the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, FFS. Closeted congressional leaders who are in fact serial child molesters.
Funny how this keeps happening SO OFTEN in the party of supposed high moral ground.
I'm not checking to see whether my elected state officials in North Carolina have revoked their endorsement of Trump yet because I know what the answer will be and for one day this month, just one goddamned day, I'd like to not end the day feeling worse about this country than when the day started.
@the_adriator Apex is pretty much just Cheaper Cary now.
This place has a lot to recommend it. Moved here from Michigan, which is just as bad in terms of race relations and economic disparity, although how they manifest is different. They're even on par for weather catastrophes (tornados, snow and ice storms vs. hurricanes)
But yeah Michigan has never managed the epicness of asshattery that the current North Carolina state government has managed.
@ardgedee @notbad Most of my family still lives in Apex, and every time I go back it's even more disgustingly like Cary. Once all the mailboxes have to be the same, the transformation will be complete. But when I moved out, they had just built the Target. It was the first big thing there. Before that, the Bojangle's was the biggest highlight...
And Cary is annex-crazy. My grandparents' neighborhood successfully fought formal annexation, but where there were beautiful sections of forest at the entrancs to the neighborhood there are now houses six feet from each other. I won'tbe surprised if half of Wake County is Cary one day.
Now I live in Maine where houses are a reasonable distance apart and I can have whatever mailbox I goddamn please. The governor here is just about as bad as any politicians down there, but most of the people in the legislature are level-headed and can keep him in check when it comes to legislation (but not when it comes to saying racist, xenophobic, homophobic, or sexist shit).

@Lord_John_Whorfin I've had a rough week and am drunk facebooking. I just got frustrated that I couldn't "like" your comment.
