@Lockjaw iTunes gift cards, well any gift card really, can easily be converted to cash. When it's free iTunes credit to begin with a ~10% vig is negligible. If 1 out of 100 people a day fall for this, my guess is the numbers are significantly higher than that, you're clearing <$600 a day per call scammer. 10 guys in a boiler room somewhere... you get the idea.
I initially felt a pang of sympathy for her being a Tech Darwin Award recipient. But then I realized tech really had nothing to do with this; it's just a basic old school grift with a slightly modern spin. Am I a Bad Person to have no sympathy for suckers who don't know/can't figure out financial/life fundamentals?

@Lord_John_Whorfin Most of the time, I think "God, people are dumb!" when I see these things. But also, one of my brothers is autistic, and he implicitly trusts just about everyone, sometimes to his peril. He's not dumb enough to fall for shit like this, but he IS trusting enough to almost fall for shit like this before he thinks it through. A good example is a time where he thought about going to a for-profit university.
Like a lot of people with autism, he finds it really hard to lie, even when he's trying to not hurt someone's feelings, so he has to always remind himself that other people can and do lie so he doesn't end up buying $700 worth of iTunes cards at CVS.
