It's weird, I still have a CFL bulb in my bedroom at my mom's house that's been there since ~1990. It was before the spiral shape came about. The newer ones, especially the cheaper ones just don't seem to hold up.
@Biscuit Interesting. Feit is the brand Costco sells. These were several years old. Pre-2012 (year of that news article) wouldn't surprise me.
The UL listing usually tests for failure causing sparks or fire so I wasn't super worried but that looks bad (the ones in the video where the tube came off may have released some mercury vapor)
@Kevin That's where we got ours, Costco. No problems so far. Nothing on the CPSC website about Feit recalls, but there are a shit-ton of LED recalls from other companies: http://www.cpsc.gov/en... .
