Quatermass And The Pit 1967

Those of you in North America are probably more familiar with this film under the title "Five Million Years to Earth". If you know it at all, you're probably like me and saw it for the first time as a child and had it haunt you for the rest of your life. This is a classic example of British low budget sci-fi/horror at its best where they make the most of their money and transcend it all with an amazing story that captures your imagination. This was based on the Quatermass TV series and tells the tale of visitors from another world who have left their mark on humanity in a most fundamental and disturbing way. The unearthing during a subway expansion project of an alien craft buried beneath the streets of London sets in motion a series of discoveries that lead to questions about humanity and our own origins. They also lead to questions about what might still be alive down there and how it might effect humanity today. As a child, this movie terrified me and it still gives me chills to this day. My brother once drew a picture of the flaming demon head from the climax that I could never stand to look at because it freaked me out too much. Unlike many childhood films that, in adult life, lose their impact, this one has retained it's ability to spook and disturb.
