This isn't the very first house I lived in, but I did live here from the time I was 1 until I was 7. On the right used to be a garage, and the portico is something other owners updated too. The house used be just plain white stucco with an orange trim. The semi circle between the sidewalk and the driveway used to have two huge palm trees and lots of cactus bushes. At Easter time my mom would cut up styrofoam egg cartons and stick the egg cups on to the cacti for decorations. My room was in the front on the left, my sister's was in between mine and the front door. This is in Fort Lauderdale, and lots of trees in the neighborhood were fruit droppers. We had tons of avocados, oranges and lemons. That sidewalk is where I learned how to ride a bike and rollerskate and my dad used to make the best chalk drawings on it.
My friend Wendy recently wrote a memoir, "The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie". I just finished reading it and recommend it for anyone who grew up loving the books.
Bidding is going on RIGHT NOW for the Garth Williams artwork from Little House in the Big Woods!
